Wonder Woman

20170530 Wonder Woman

I’d been waiting for this movie since I first saw Wonder Woman in Batman v. Superman, and the wait was worth it. The story is WW’s origin story, but also ties in nicely to the upcoming Justice League. The choice of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman is definitely the right one. She brings strength, determination, and empathy to the character. Definitely go watch this movie!

Maddy has a compromised immune system and has to live in a sealed environment her whole life. Then she meets her cute new neighbor and yearns to explore life outside. This cute romantic drama is an internet-age version of the ’70s TV-movie “The Boy in the Plastic Bubble” (yep, I’m dating myself) but with an interesting twist in the end. The leads are likable, the dialogue engaging,  and the pace just right, so, if you’re in the mood for a light romantic drama , this is it.

My expectations were high. After all, you have Amy Schumer as the selfie-loving daughter and Goldie Hawn as the risk-averse mother in this jungle kidnapping farce. But I found the funniest scenes to be the ones with the supporting cast, particularly Wanda Sykes, Joan Cusack, and (would you believe) Christopher Meloni. Bottomline, the movie is just okay, but if you watch it, watch it for the supporting cast.

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword

This is a different take on the story of King Arthur, featuring a buff and wise-ass Arthur and some unfamiliar characters instead of the usual Morgan le Fay, Merlin, etc. The story also features more magic and fantasy characters, but it works for the movie. It has gripping fight scenes and very good special effects, including some scenes that remind me of Lord of the Rings, when Frodo was being chased by the ringwraiths. So, worth watching? Yep!
