A mild-mannered teacher is challenged to a fist fight by a brutish co-teacher in a school with an out-of-control student body. How to avoid the showdown? Some laughs, and a lot of yelling. Overall, an average movie that you can wait to watch when it eventually comes out on video or on TV.
Matt Damon plays a greedy foreigner who wants to get black powder from China to bring back to the west and become rich, but ends up learning selflessness and trust and helping the Chinese forces defend the country from monsters called tao tei. The story and acting are average, but I enjoyed the daring female soldiers, and the Chinese general is female, too! (Obviously, this is a fantasy film). It is quite the visual spectacle with the Great Wall as the setting, so you’ll want to watch this movie on a big screen. However, 3D is optional.
This movie is based on the true story of the marriage of the King of Botswana and a white English woman. David Oyelowo and Rosamund Pike are great as the king and his wife, whose love had to endure through the racial divide and political machinations going on in the late 40’s. Definitely worth watching. Oh, and Draco Malfoy has a supporting role in the movie, too.
What’s your favorite thing about Earth? This light drama / sci-fi explores Earth from the eyes of a teen-aged boy born on Mars and visiting Earth for the first time after 16 years to search for his father, with a sweet teen-age love story thrown in. The geek in me wants to believe the possibility of living on Mars someday. But until then, this movie will make you gain a better appreciation for the Earth that we live on now.
