Investors beware! This story of a mining company owner and a geologist who hit the gold jackpot in Indonesia is based on a true mining story in the 90s. Investors poured in, but is this all for real? Matthew McConaughey does a great job delivering on the role of the mining company owner, even gaining weight for the role. And you don’t need to know mining or the stock market to understand the story. If you have nothing better to do, consider watching this movie.
Life is so much simpler from a dog’s point of view. If we could only read a dog’s mind… This movie will make you laugh, cry, get angry, go awwww, and fall in love with dogs if you aren’t already. And if you don’t want to watch this movie because of the controversial video currently circulating, it’s your prerogative, but to paraphrase Ellen DeGeneres – why is the video surfacing only now, when this movie was shot back in 2015? And some more info from snopes http://www.snopes.com/2017/01/18/animal-abuse-alleged-set-dogs-purpose/.
This movie tells the story of Ray Kroc – a very persistent and aggressive salesman, but a lousy human being. Michael Keaton does a great job portraying Kroc, making you admire the guy for his instincts and drive, but also making you hate him for what he did to the McDonald brothers. Definitely worth watching, whether or not you eat at McDonald’s.
This is a fun family-friendly movie. The pacing is good, the story is interesting, the length just right, and most of all, it was fun hearing the audience laugh and clap and gasp at various scenes in the movie. So, if you’re looking for some light mindless entertainment, this one is it.
The movie, about an initially reluctant gangster, is okay but not gripping. The movie was also a bit too long for my taste. In fact, I spent part of the movie reflecting on the various accents I could hear in the movie – Irish, Italian, Bostonian, Southern, Hispanic… So, no need to rush out to watch this movie unless you have nothing better to do.
The visual effects are great and the acting is good. But the pacing was a bit slow, and the monster’s tales to help a boy cope with his mother’s illness did not immediately click with me. Still, not a bad movie.
This movie will make you cheer for the smarts and strength of these amazing women who worked for NASA and helped put the first American into space, even though they were discriminated against. Based on a true story, I’m sure the movie took a few liberties to amp the drama, but bottomline, these women believed in the space program and were an important part of the space program’s success, race and gender discrimination notwithstanding. Must watch!
Typical of Martin Scorsese films, this one is loooong and could be better if shortened. The story is intense, the dilemma tough. Will the priests renounce Jesus to save the villagers from torture? Will prayers be answered or will they be met with silence from God? If you like Scorsese films, you’ll like this – just be prepared for the gut-wrenching torture scenes.
